KARDIO-ICD – Registry of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD)

A central registry dealing with the implantation of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD).

start of the project: 12/2009

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is the basic treatment option for cardiac arrhythmia and is implanted in patients who are at risk of sudden cardiac death. Indications for ICD implantation are summarized in the Guidelines for implantation of cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardioverters-defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) systems. Clinical trials have confirmed ICD implantation to be a more effective therapy than treatment with antiarrhythmic drugs. The Kardio-ICD project creates a central registry for a systematic collection of data on ICD implantations.

Project objectives:

  • collection and analysis of data on ICD implantations,
  • simplification and parametrization of the process of ICD implantation approval,
  • transferring the current data on ICD implantations to the new structure of the registry.
